School leadership as a key factor in educational quality in Mexican primary education

In educational institutions, leadership plays a key role in how school processes are organized and learning environments are constructed. This article aims to reflect on and analyze the relationship between the pedagogical leadership of school leaders and educational quality, using the context of primary education in Mexico as a reference. Through a theoretical and regulatory review, contributions on educational leadership, management skills, and educational quality are examined, as well as guidelines proposed by the New Mexican School movement and by national and international organizations involved in educational improvement. The analysis reveals that leadership based on communication, the participation of the teaching staff, pedagogical support, and the appropriate handling of conflicts fosters a positive school climate, institutional organization, and the development of teaching and learning processes. Furthermore, the article discusses how school leaders are currently selected and trained, highlighting the need to strengthen the pedagogical and human dimensions of leadership. It is concluded that moving towards a higher quality education implies rethinking the role of the manager as a close, formative, and committed pedagogical leader within their school community.
