The study aimed to analyze the relationship between leadership and work motivation in a fashion retail company in Ecuador, with the aim of providing empirical evidence to contribute to the strengthening of human talent management strategies. The research adopted a quantitative approach, with a correlational scope and a non-experimental cross-sectional design. Information was collected through questionnaires administered to 28 employees at a point of sale located in the city of Riobamba. Spearman's Rho coefficient was used to analyze the relationship between variables. The results showed that transformational leadership had a moderate and significant positive correlation with intrinsic motivation (ρ = 0.535; p < 0.01), while transactional leadership showed a moderate and significant positive correlation with motivation through organizational commitment (ρ = 0.437; p < 0.05). In contrast, passive leadership showed no significant correlations with any dimension of work motivation. In general terms, the existence of a positive and significant relationship between active leadership styles and work motivation is confirmed, supporting the hypothesis and highlighting the importance of leadership as a strategic factor in talent management in the retail sector.
