Abstract

This article examines the importance of including climate change in the curriculum of the Bachelor of Geography Education program, highlighting its relevance in the educational and social spheres. It argues that climate change, considered an indisputable reality, must be addressed in the curriculum to prepare future professionals to proactively influence their communities. The author highlights that, despite growing scientific evidence on the effects of climate change, a high level of ignorance and disinterest persists in society. This is due to the confusion between climate change and other environmental problems, as well as the lack of connection between scientific information and people's daily concerns. Furthermore, she criticizes the tendency to evade responsibility, which exacerbates the crisis. In the Cuban context, the country's vulnerability to the effects of climate change and the need to integrate this knowledge into teacher training are emphasized. A multidisciplinary approach is proposed that considers not only environmental aspects but also pedagogical and social aspects to foster a comprehensive understanding of the phenomenon. It also advocates for an educational approach that promotes a critical and proactive attitude toward climate change, training future graduates to address the environmental and social challenges of their surroundings.
