Burnout en la profesión docente: una mirada al agotamiento, la salud ocupacional y el desempeño

Resumen

El burnout docente ha dejado de ser un problema circunscrito al cansancio profesional para convertirse en un desafío que compromete la salud, la permanencia laboral y la calidad de los procesos educativos. Este estudio tuvo como objetivo analizar el burnout en la profesión docente, considerando sus relaciones con el agotamiento ocupacional, la salud física y psicológica y el desempeño profesional. Se desarrolló una revisión documental cualitativa de investigaciones publicadas entre 2021 y 2026, integrando revisiones sistemáticas, metaanálisis, estudios longitudinales y transversales, investigaciones bibliométricas y fuentes institucionales. Los hallazgos muestran que el estrés laboral persistente, la sobrecarga, la precariedad del empleo, las exigencias administrativas y las condiciones organizacionales desfavorables incrementan la vulnerabilidad al burnout. Sus consecuencias trascienden el agotamiento emocional e incluyen deterioro de la salud física y psicológica, fatiga persistente, menor capacidad laboral, pérdida de compromiso profesional, intención de abandonar la docencia y formas de desvinculación como la renuncia silenciosa. Asimismo, sus efectos pueden alcanzar el funcionamiento del aula y determinados resultados académicos, sociales y ejecutivos de los estudiantes. La evidencia revela que un clima organizacional favorable, el apoyo institucional, la estabilidad laboral, la gestión adecuada de la carga de trabajo, la detección temprana y el acceso a recursos de salud ocupacional constituyen elementos fundamentales para la prevención. Se concluye que enfrentar el burnout exige superar las intervenciones centradas exclusivamente en la resiliencia individual y asumir una responsabilidad institucional compartida. Proteger la salud docente constituye una condición esencial para preservar una profesión estable, comprometida y capaz de sostener una educación de calidad.
