Agenda-setting and framing on X (Twitter) in the construction of media narratives
Keywords:
Agenda setting, Framing, social media, Twitter, Political communicationAbstract
Social media has assumed an increasingly important role in the way people access information and engage in public debate. Among these platforms, X stands out for its ability to disseminate content rapidly, shape trends, and encourage the participation of diverse users, news media, and political actors. As a result, it has become a space capable of influencing the visibility of issues that ultimately enter the public agenda. The importance of studying this phenomenon lies in understanding how algorithms and participation mechanisms influence the construction of agendas and the framing of information. Unlike traditional media, where content selection is primarily determined by editorial judgment, X involves a large number of actors who actively participate in, influence, and amplify the circulation and reach of information. In this context, the present study examines the influence of X on public agendas and the ways in which specific issues are presented to audiences. Using a mixed-methods approach, the research seeks to provide empirical evidence on the role of this platform within the contemporary digital ecosystem and its capacity to shape public attention and influence public discourse.
