Moringa oleifera meal supplementation as a phytobiotic on productive parameters and egg quality in laying hens: a literature review
Keywords:
Carotenoids, feed conversion ratio, eggshell thickness, yolk pigmentationAbstract
The objective of the study is to evaluate the effect of this supplementation on production indicators and egg quality characteristics. The review was conducted through a narrative synthesis based on studies published between 2016 and 2025. The main body of evidence consisted of eleven experimental studies that analyzed different inclusion levels and forms of presentation, mainly leaf meal or leaf powder. Variables related to egg production, feed intake, feed conversion ratio, egg weight, and eggshell strength, among others, were examined. The results showed heterogeneous responses in egg production, feed intake, and egg weight, while feed conversion ratio showed a moderately favorable trend. Yolk pigmentation was the most consistent positive effect, whereas eggshell thickness showed a predominantly favorable trend. It is concluded that this plant-based resource has potential as a functional feed ingredient, although its effectiveness depends on the dose, form of presentation, processing method, and experimental conditions of each study.
