Emotion-focused therapy for the treatment of generalized anxiety disorder: A systematic review.
Keywords:
Therapy, emotion-focused, anxiety, generalizedAbstract
The article highlights that generalized anxiety disorder is one of the most common mental health problems worldwide and presents emotion-focused therapy as an alternative intervention, considering anxiety as a chronic emotional vulnerability that can be processed and restructured. The objective was to analyze, through a systematic review, the effectiveness of this therapy in the treatment of the disorder. A literature search was conducted covering the last ten years in databases such as PsycINFO, PubMed, Wiley EBSCO, MEDLINE, and ERIC, selecting studies involving clinically diagnosed adult populations. Out of 142 identified articles, 7 were included that reported intervention outcomes using emotion-focused therapy. The analysis of findings showed that this therapeutic approach demonstrates promising results for managing generalized anxiety disorder, contributing to the expansion of available psychological treatment options for this condition.
