The study addressed the challenges faced by law students in research and the creation of legal knowledge, aiming to identify the main limitations affecting their performance in this field. A mixed-methods approach was employed, combining structured surveys conducted with 80 law students at the Universidad Regional Autónoma, Quevedo campus, Ecuador, with expert analysis using the Pareto Diagram. The results indicated that the main obstacles include insufficient access to updated bibliographic resources, academic overload, lack of training in digital research tools, and the limited institutional recognition of legal research. It was also identified that inequality in access to databases and libraries affects equity in research training. In response to these findings, strategies were proposed to improve bibliographic infrastructure, optimize the time allocated to research, and strengthen training in legal research methodologies. It was concluded that developing these initiatives could significantly enhance the quality of legal research and the generation of new knowledge in the academic and professional fields. Additionally, the need to integrate interdisciplinary approaches was emphasized, allowing students to address legal issues from a broader and more contextualized perspective.
